Deep in the Guatemalan jungle, cut off from the internet, all tech and even electricity, Mary volunteered long-term at an orphanage as a teaching-artist/ guest artist. Her aim was to prepare the kids for adult life by inspiring a connection to their own art, art making and building community around art. In addition to teaching art, Mary would make original art for the children to enjoy.
The library decoration project was an interior design project, flat-color, wall painting project and a decorative art painting project all in one. It entailed library color design, graphic art design, wall painting, furniture painting, and artistic painting on both walls and furniture.
The river was visible through the wooden floor boards and half the windows of the library. Sounds of jungle howler monkeys, quetzals and cicadas easily passed through the thin, particle board walls. Mary loved the pre-existing color and wear of the floor and chose colors for the walls, doors and furniture which would complement this and add to the lively feeling of the environment. Mary painted imagery that referred back to the wildlife which teemed all around this shack.

By special appointment, she also serves Tompkins County, Ithaca, New York.
Conditions: Clients must provide ladder or lift if needed. Mary values her health and wellbeing. Her health & safety conditions are: Wall height ladder max 15’ . Beyond 15”, a lift is necessary. No ultra harsh chemicals (no paint stripping, no high risk of lead, etc.). Any time beyond 8 hours in one day is charged overtime at rate of time and a half. Ceiling painting has special time limits per day. Daytime hours only. Thanks for understanding!
